Parents urged to check vehicles before walking away from them
 
Baltimore, MD (July 16, 2015) – The first heat-related death of the 2015 season has occurred, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) has confirmed. The death occurred in June, and was a female under age 4 in Baltimore City who was left in a car.

Nearly 150 rabid animals discovered in Maryland so far in 2015
 
Baltimore, MD (July 15, 2015) – Each year, the Maryland Departments of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) and of Natural Resources (DNR) learn of situations where residents with the best of intentions have “rescued” a young wild animal and in doing so, have exposed themselves to rabies. Even when animals do not have rabies, residents endanger animals by interfering with their natural adaptation and development of basic survival skills.

DHMH providing free retailer-compliance education as part of broader campaign
 
Baltimore, MD (June 29, 2015) – Though it is illegal to sell tobacco products to youths under 18, in the past two years, Maryland has seen a troubling increase in the number of retailers selling tobacco products to minors – in violation of federal, state and local laws. Underage access to tobacco products is unacceptable in Maryland.
