Worcester County Health Department has a number of evaluation and referral services available to residents. Common services are available in the following areas: substance abuse, women's health, homelessness, transportation assistance, and other health care resources such as primary adult care. Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) PDF Print E-mail
altThe Worcester County Crisis Intervention Team (C.I.T.) provides a comprehensive training designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed to guide first responders when interacting with individuals in behavioral health crises. The program’s goal is to serve as an expansion of the crisis response system in order to provide collaborative and effective intervention and appropriate service coordination to those in behavioral health crises. 
 
The mission of C.I.T. is to enjoin community leaders, advance public safety and enhance community services to persons with behavioral health issues. The Worcester County C.I.T. is a collaborative program built on strong community partnerships between criminal justice professionals, behavioral health professionals, advocacy groups and community members.
 
Objectives of C.I.T.: 
  • Coordinate training programs that will enhance officer interactions, skills and safety when responding to behavioral health crises
  • Increase officer awareness of individuals at risk of, or experiencing, behavioral health crises
  • Improve effectiveness of officer response to behavioral health  crises
  • Reduce injuries to officers, persons in crises and their family members
  • Provide appropriate service coordination and resource linkage to persons with behavioral health issues
  • Provide community outreach and education on the Worcester County C.I.T. program

altWomen's Health Program consists of several services such as early care home visiting service, pregnancy prevention and support and parenting support for adolescents.   Reproductive Health patients are eligible to receive education on all contraceptive methods, a physical examination, and the birth control method. Other services include screening, education, treatment, and/or referral for HIV, and STD evaluation for male and female patients. Pregnancy testing is also available.

Lifesaving Overdose Reversal Drug Now More Easily Available in Maryland Pharmacies
 
ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene recently announced that Dr. Howard Haft, the agency’s Deputy Secretary for Public Health, issued a new statewide standing order that allows pharmacies to dispense naloxone, the non-addictive lifesaving drug that can reverse an opioid overdose, to all Maryland citizens. The order follows legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Larry Hogan that included a Hogan administration proposal to enable all citizens to access naloxone. Previously, naloxone was available only to those trained and certified under the Maryland Overdose Response Program.

Snow Hill, MD – The 2-1-1 Maryland hotline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in more than 180 languages. Services are available locally through the Worcester County Health Department by dialing 2-1-1. These services include peer recovery support and access to treatment.
