Emergency Preparedness Night at the Shorebirds

 SALISBURY, MD (August 13, 2013) – The health departments of Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties invite the public to Emergency Preparedness Night on August 16th at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Delmarva Shorebirds will play against the Lakewood Blueclaws at 7:05 p.m.

Representatives from local health departments, emergency management agencies, and volunteer organizations will host exhibit booths promoting emergency preparedness before and during the baseball game.

Come out to the ballpark to support the Shorebirds and learn how you can be better prepared for life’s curve balls.

The event is co-sponsored by the health departments and emergency management offices of Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency.

What’s the Bottom Line on the Risks of E-cigarettes for Kids, Teens, and Young Adults?

  • The use of e-cigarettes is unsafe for kids, teens, and young adults.
  • Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s.1
  • E-cigarettes can contain other harmful substances besides nicotine.

Winter storms create a higher risk of car accidents, hypothermia, frostbite, carbon monoxide poisoning, and heart attacks from overexertion. Winter storms and blizzards can bring extreme cold, freezing rain, snow, ice, and high winds.

Take Care During Winter Storms:

  • Stay off roads.
  • Stay indoors and dress warmly.
  • Prepare for power outages.
  • Use generators outside only and away from windows.
  • Listen for emergency information and alerts.
  • Look for signs of hypothermia and frostbite.
  • Check on neighbors.
