BALTIMORE, MD (Oct. 11, 2013) — The tenth annual Maryland Health Disparities Conference will be held Friday, October 11, on the Eastern Shore and features speakers from MDs General Assembly and state health partners.

The Maryland Health Disparities Conference is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's (DHMH) Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD), and is co-sponsored by the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission (MCHRC), Chesapeake College, and Maryland Center for Health Equity, Public Health, University of Maryland (MCHEPHUM).

This year’s theme is “Health Reform to Health Equity on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.”

The purpose of the conference is to highlight advances in Maryland to help improve health among all Marylanders and reduce health disparities through the Affordable Care Act.

Dr. Thomas A. LaVeist will deliver the annual Shirley Nathan-Pulliam Health Equity Lecture at 10:30 a.m. and will be available briefly afterward for media interviews.

The Worcester County Health Department is working with the Maryland Department of Health's Division of Outbreak Investigation to investigate an outbreak of gastroenteritis among attendees of a Beer and Oyster Festival held at Fager's Island Restaurant in Ocean City, MD on Saturday, November 4, 2017. 
 
Worcester County Environmental Health staff were onsite Saturday, November 11, 2017 to conduct a facility check and reinforce safe food handling practices.. At this time, we have not received any reports of illness from the November 11, 2017 event. 
 
Individuals who attended the event on November 4, 2017 and are concerned about their personal health should consult with their physicians.
 
Due to inclement weather, the Just Walk Making Strides event scheduled for today is rescheduled for 5-6 p.m. on October 18 at Byrd Park in Snow Hill. For more information, please call 410-632-0056.
