Medicaid selects MCO participants for first phase of type 2 diabetes project. Maryland was 1 of 2 states awarded funding for 2-year prevention effort.
 
Baltimore, MD (August 30, 2016) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has selected the managed care organizations (MCOs) that will participate in a demonstration project to show ways to offer the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) to Medicaid recipients. Earlier this summer, Maryland was one of two states awarded funding for the program.

First Maryland case of West Nile Virus in 2016 is confirmed. Residents urged to take basic steps to reduce risk from mosquito-borne disease.
 
Baltimore, MD (August 22, 2016) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is announcing the first confirmed case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Maryland this year. The patient, an adult who lives in Western Maryland, survived the infection.

DHMH recognizes World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis C (HCV) medications now available for specific clients.
 
BALTIMORE, MD (July 28, 2016) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA), and the Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau (IDPHSB) join the nation in the observance of World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2016.  At this time, DHMH is proud to formally announce the expansion of the Maryland AIDS Drug Assistance Program (MADAP) formulary to include medications for hepatitis C. This action allows MADAP clients access to treatments known to cure hepatitis C in as little as 12-24 weeks. Hepatitis C medications added to the formulary in April 2016 include:
