Worcester County Health Department

The Worcester County Health Department is located in Snow Hill, Maryland on the beautiful Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.


Our mission is to promote health, well being, and a safe environment for all of our residents, as well as those who visit our resort areas each season.

We accomplish this by assessing the community's needs, developing appropriate policy to promote health and well being, and providing, or assuring the provision, of needed quality health services. We currently have approx. 275 employees with a variety of educational backgrounds who specialize in such areas as: Environmental Science, Nursing, Social Work, Prevention and Health Promotion, Chemical Dependency Services, Administrative Services, and Mental Health.

The selected candidate for this position will be joining a dynamic team at a Joint Commission accredited organization, where he/she will be working with diverse populations, including children, adolescents and adults, in a work environment that offers flexibility and opportunities for innovative practice in a multi-disciplinary setting. The scope of practice includes: evaluating, assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals to determine necessary psychiatric treatment, including the prescription and monitoring of medications; crisis intervention; and the planning and implementation of treatment.

A Community Health Nurse II is the full performance level of work providing direct nursing care to patients . The main purpose of this position is to provide community health nursing services in the communicable disease program as well as other assigned programs to individuals and/or families in the community through the use of the nursing process. Services provided include, but are not limited to:  health promotion, health maintenance, health education and management; and coordination and continuity of care in a holistic approach to the management of the health care of individuals, families, and groups in the community. Home visits are required as is travel to state and regional meetings and training.
