Worcester County Health Department provides substance use treatment for youth under age 18. Services are available at our West Ocean City and Pocomoke locations. Some services may also be available at local schools.

What to Expect

Services begin with a screening and assessment. This helps our team learn more about the young person’s substance use, strengths, concerns, and treatment needs. We will also look at whether other services, such as mental health counseling, may be helpful.

Treatment may include:

• Individual counseling
• Education about alcohol and drugs and how they can affect your health and life
• Help with making healthy choices and building coping skills
• Regular drug screenings
• Support and education for families

Our counselors have experience working with teens and understand the challenges young people and families face.

Treatment usually lasts about 12 weeks, but every person is different. We will work with the youth and their family to decide how long services are needed. Family involvement is strongly encouraged and can be an important part of recovery.

Need More Support?

Sometimes a young person may need more support than our program provides. If a higher level of care is recommended, our team will help the youth and their family connect with a program that can better meet their needs.
