Worcester County Health Department receives high marks for emergency preparedness

Snow Hill, Md. –   The Worcester County Health Department is pleased to announce its high score from this year’s Strategic National Stockpile plan review and site visit – a 97 out of possible 100.

This past spring a representative from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Preparedness and Response and a public health advisor from the Centers for Disease Control Division of the Strategic National Stockpile visited the health department in Snow Hill to review and assess emergency plans.

The health department’s SNS plan is reviewed annually to ensure its ability to protect the public during a public health emergency. A public health emergency activates the use of the CDC SNS. SNS supplies can include medication, medical materials and/or vaccine.

The site review examined specific elements of the health department’s plan including its ability to manage SNS within an incident command structure, request SNS, use of redundant communications platforms, public information, security planning, inventory management and trainings and exercises.

In addition to health department emergency preparedness staff, county partners from the sheriff’s office and emergency services were also invited to participate in the plan review.

Worcester County significantly improved from last year’s score of 88.
