MEDIA ADVISORY: Health Department Sponsors Walking Tour of the Human Heart

Snow Hill, Md. (February 4, 2014) - The Worcester County Health Department invites county residents to come take a walk inside the human heart and learn how it works and how to keep it healthy.

WHAT:  The AmeriHeart exhibit is a 21’ x 17’ inflatable replica of the heart. It will be on display at the 17th Tortoise and Hare Dare 5K Walk/Run on April 5. The FREE event will promote healthy eating and an active, tobacco- free lifestyle.  Local health, recreation, and community exhibits will be available for participants to visit following the walk. 
 
WHEN:  Saturday, April 5, 2014
             8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - 5K Fun Walk
             10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Visit exhibits including the interactive AmeriHeart
 
WHERE: Pocomoke River State Park- Shad Landing
              Manokin Pavilion, adjacent to Shad Landing Marina
              Off Route 113 in Snow Hill, Md.
 
WHO:  The Worcester County Health Department is coordinating in partnership with the Worcester County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Pocomoke River State Park.  Funding is provided by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities.
 
WHY:  The AmeriHeart display will educate participants about how the heart works and how to keep it healthy.  The Tortoise and Hare Dare is a free, 5KWalk/Run and is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while getting some physical activity with friends, family, and other community residents.
